Shrimp on a Treadmill

Don't we all just feel like a shrimp on a treadmill some days?  I'm actually on vacation this week and enjoying a step off of the treadmill.

Before we left we watched Fringe from last week - it was interesting.  I like the way they are developing Walter's character a bit, having him become just a little more sane.  I think he's more sane than he lets on some of the time.

Sanctuary is actually getting a bit better.  I really did not like it the first episode I saw.  I think its too dark, too comic-booky, and Amanda Tapping has a terrible English accent.  But it is warming up a bit so I will give it a chance.  The episode I just saw was the one with the autistic kid who shoots fire out of his eyes.  Cool.

Anyway, Cowgirl Marianne is going to go rustle up some grub or gather cattle supplies now so I will catch you laterz.

Webhosting, Typepad, Worpress... so many choices

I use Typepad as my blogging platform and host but it seems like most people with the really cool up to the minute blogs are using Wordpress.  There are so many plug ins and add-ons for Wordpress I am really tempted to get my own hosting and manage it myself.

On the other hand, I really like the idiot proof ease of use of Typepad.  I do have my own domains for the three blogs I run, and Typepad makes it really easy to do most things.  One thing I have not found out how to to with Typepad however, is to have the Page Curl ad thing.  I would love to have one of those on my Crohn's Disease Relief site for the AmericaRx affiliate store I have set up there.  (I sell nice little goodies to help relief some of the day to day pains associated with Crohn's such as heating pads, etc.)

I found a handy reference website for people investigating web hosting options called Web Hosting Geeks - here is their recommendation for Blog Hosting. They have a nice price and feature comparison chart, and even feature customer reviews.  I like the fact that even though they are recommending certain hosting providers they have open customer reviews on the site both positve and negative.  That really helps build their credibility as a review site.

Another feature I really want to have on my blog - the ability to blog from my cell phone.  I need to figure this out.  I really want to get a new Blackberry or iPhone so I can take advantage of the new software Typepad has for blogging from a cell phone.  I think it would be so cool to be able to take a picture on the phone and instantly upload it to the web and blog about it.

Where else can you see a segment called, Why Weatherstripping is Cool.  (A similar reminder from me - fix any leaky faucets. Leaky sink or shower faucets can waste a lot of water!)

Firefox 3 download now available from Mozilla

Firefox fans are burning up the CAT6 wires downloading the newest version of the Internet browser released yesterday.

With improvements such as the ability to add tags to bookmarks, faster performance, and better security, I am looking forward to upgrading.  The new bookmarking interface is called "Places" and is said by Wired, to have borrowed features and look and feel from popular social bookmarking sites such as del.ici.us.  There is also an improved download panel for when you download files.

Thanks for the mention of scifijungle.com's Top 10 Sci Fi Comedy Movies on your site.  I didn't list Waterworld because its a totally serious work of art, man, and not a comedy. Dude! I LURVE me some Waterworld. The only thing better than Waterworld is "The Postman!" That is seriously one of my favorite movies. Kevin Costner rawks in The Postman and I love the young sidekick named "Ford Lincoln Mercury."

         

A post about Marketing

I am working on some marketing blurbs for the site.  I hear it can take the search engines like Google up to 6 weeks to start listing new sites, so I am doing alot of research on how to promote.  One of the things the four of us have been discussing is off-web marketing such as flyers, business cards, bumper stickers, and of course wearing our own t-shirts.  (That is going to be the fun part)

In another piece of news, we have our second artist lined up.   Her name is Melanie and her specialty is Japanese style Manga (aka anime) inspired illustations.   Her art is going to bring a unique youthful and teen focused, kid friendly (yet slightly offbeat) flavor to the offerings in the store.
