The best one might be the last - the 285th Rule of Acquisition - No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. Next time you are web conferencing a business meeting, I suggest you play this.  Some of these are just plain classics.

How to Get Rid of Cable

I am facinated by the idea of getting rid of cable.  I really like having a lot of choices in TV watching though, so I need to have methods of getting my favorite shows.

First things first, get a digital antenna ($12.00 and up) and see what channels are coming in free full digital through the air.  Wow - what a wonderful concept the way TV used to be. I understand that the Atlanta area has about 13 full power digital tv stations, for example.  Some of the biggies are ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, PBS,  ION, etc.

Then if you want to give yourself a lot of content, try a Roku player ($50.00 and up) to get Netflix streaming (7.99 a month) and Hulu plus (8.99 a month) for a lot cheaper than even basic cable.

 

      

Narrator in Voltron is the Same Guy who does the Voice of Optimus Prime

Today's episode of "recognize the voice talent" features the old kids TV show Voltron and also Transformers.

My kids were scoping out the new Just for Kids view on Netflix and decided they wanted to watch Voltron.  I apparently missed this cheesy gem back in 1984 but my husband remembered it fondly.  As we were listening to it vaguely in the background Jin said - "hey, isn't the voice of the narrator the same guy who does Optimus Prime?" 

After a quick bit of Google-Fu I proved this to be true: Peter Cullen is not only the voice of Optimus Prime (all the way from the old TV shows to he current Michael Bay movies) but he also did the voice of the narrator on Voltron.  He also does the voice of Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh!  Awesome catch hubster - your prize is a set of volvo v90 custom floor mats.  Thanks for playing Recognize the Voice Talent.  Come back next week when we feature the annoying laugh of "Mrs. The Conductor" from Dinosaur Train.

Firefly Intro - 80's Style

This is pretty funny... what would the Firefly Intro look like if the show was made in the 80's? Yes, all those shows that I thought were so cool back in the day are looking totally dated now.  I finally got to see some episodes of Space 1999 again and it was a real hoot.

So get your yamaha generator going and watch Firefly - If it was done in the 1980's.

Fringe Has Been Renewed

As Fox says in their press release - Fringe has been renewed "in both Universes."  They are calling for a full 22 episodes. 

The show is getting great, so people really need to start watching. And I think they do a really good job of recapping what you need to know at the beginning of each episode so you can jump in and not be totally Lost. 

If you want to learn more about the shows over-arching storyline, the older episodes are on DVD, as well as streaming from Amazon.  If you just want t catch up on recent epsisodes Hulu.com has the previous 5 episodes streaming for free.

 

Happy 80th Birthday Leonard Nimoy

Today is Leorard Nimoy's 80th birthday.  They guy is awesome and still working!  (On Fringe, athough I guess in a way not really since his character is in the body of Olivia... ok now I am confused)

William Shatner had his 80th birthday too this week - I didn't know those guys were almost exactly the same age.  Older than my parents and still kicking it old skool style!  Yay!  That gives me something to look forward to.

Patrick Stewart on Sesame Street

I am still smiling at this one, so thought I should share.  When Patrick Stewart guest stars on Sesame Street, the number one better get into his place!

Patrick Stewart hasn't sent me any birthday invitations but if he did I would go. 

And just to add - whoever is doing the voice of The Count these days just does not sounds quite right.

 

Welcome to Area 51, Bruce Boxleitner

Bruce Boxleitner, you say?  Starring in a SyFy original movie about Area 51?  I am so totally there.  I still retain a huge crush on the Scarecrow from The Scarecrow and Mrs. King.  Is it just me or does has he kind of aged into a Bill Clinton look?

SyFy original movies are such a strange thing.  They tend to be really terrible but I understand that they are the channel's major moneymakers.  Go figure!  I would like to suggest a title for them - Croc-a-Gator.  There - free idea.  Do what you want with it.  And for even more fun - if you need a wrinkle cure - click here.

 

 

Wonder Woman Remix

A little fun for your weekend.  If you're stuck in the snow or like us here in Atlanta enjoing the sun finally coming out, you might want to watch this video of classic clips from the Wonder Woman TV series starring Linda Carter.  I freakin' love Wonder Woman!  She totally rocks the costume and kicks a$$ for goodness and truth and women kind.  Plus I had a huge crush on Lyle Waggoner, too.

I especially like the episodes where they went to the island of the Amazons - awesome.
