After buzzing through "The Naming" and "The Riddle" I have completely become caught up in the saga of Maerad of Pellinor and her quest to rid the world of the Nameless One.
The third book "The Crow" threw me for a loop because it features Maerad's brother Hem instead of her as I have become used to. It took me a while to warm up to Hem, who starts the book as a rather shy, sruly 12 year old feeling very out of place in Bard school. I am about halfway through and the story has picked right up. Between the tough war survivor Zelika Hem meets up with, and his white crow companion Irc, the cast of characters is keeping me interested.
Hem really comes into his powers, healing, talking to animals (bobcats for sale?) and using spells to hide and disguise. There are 4 books in the series and I plan to read them with relish.
