Now Reading: Within the Flames by Marjorie M. Liu

I am excitedly reading the new Dirk and Steele novel by Marjorie M. Liu.  While I don't really care for her other series, the Dirk and Steele ones are some of my favorites.  I am trying to read this book really slowly so that the enjoyment will last!  They are a great mixture of action, people with paranormal abilities, and hot hot Romance.  Just the kind of stuff I like.

How to Get Rid of Cable

I am facinated by the idea of getting rid of cable.  I really like having a lot of choices in TV watching though, so I need to have methods of getting my favorite shows.

First things first, get a digital antenna ($12.00 and up) and see what channels are coming in free full digital through the air.  Wow - what a wonderful concept the way TV used to be. I understand that the Atlanta area has about 13 full power digital tv stations, for example.  Some of the biggies are ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, PBS,  ION, etc.

Then if you want to give yourself a lot of content, try a Roku player ($50.00 and up) to get Netflix streaming (7.99 a month) and Hulu plus (8.99 a month) for a lot cheaper than even basic cable.

 

      

John Carter Trailer

This is an upcoming Disney film which is an adaptation from the John Carter of Mars series by Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs. By the way, the first three books in the series are available on Kindle for 99 cents.  What a deal!

I think this is a perfect movie to do a cheesy Hollywood special effects spectacular, because Burroughs meant the stories to be glorified adventure stories.  While Burroughs work actually has  decent literary value and is well written, I call it early pulp fiction because it was intended to be a sensational read filled with adventure.  Its a perfect example of great author elevating popular work above the level of ordinary.  I wonder if Mars sand makes good abrasives?
