I have a confession to make. Before I started writing this blog in a misguided attempt to sell t-shirts, I had never heard of SteamPunk. Now that I regularly write about Science Fiction, I have gotten somewhat of an idea of what it's all about. Apparently SteamPunk has to do with weird pseudo 19th century machines to replace the black plastic boxes we see so much of in modern life. Brass features heavily in this stuff - I know that much. Kind of like is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Jules Verne could really do the fantastical stuff they wrote about.
Well I basically just went about my day to day life full of ignorance. Until today, my friends. Until today. I just read an amazing one page piece by Cory Docterow on the online version of Make Magazine that completely and utterly defined and explained SteamPunk to me. It is a must read.

I feel like I learned something today, which is a good thing. I like to learn something new every day, so I can then take a nap with no guit. No Fenterdren needed. If I feel the need to burn fat for calories I should maybe do the dishes. Or perhaps take a page out of the SteamPunk manual and knit. I wonder... SteamPunk Knitting...
