I caught the second episode of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, the new Fox TV drama about a company that has figured out how to wipe the minds of their "operatives" and replace their memories with fully formed characters at will.
I was prepared not to like the show, because it seems like an unsavory titillation fest all about some sort of mental prostitution/slavery. And in fact it is quite unsavory, which is what made it work for me. The company is clearly evil, and there is a big swath of grey area in each character, that makes you wonder who is good, who is bad, and why the are doing what they are doing.
Since I missed the first one I don't know why "Echo" Eliza Dushku's character got involved in the place. I do see that the show has a lot of potential, as Echo becomes more self aware. And the FBI agent trying to find her is an interesting mechanism.
The handler, or bodyguard, Boyd Langton (played by Harry J. Lennix) is a very interesting character. Seemingly morally neutral one can only wonder why he would take such a horrid job and what he might do to help Echo if he realizes she is not there quite willingly.
