Yesterday the hubby and I went to see Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans. First of all, I think it's important to ask, why did they make a movie about a mossy fungus that grows on trees? Oh wait, that's lichens, not lycans. Nevermind.
Rise of the Lycans is a prequel to the other two Underworld films. I personally am not the biggest fan of the series, but hubster is, so I went in the interest of family unity. We like to throw popcorn at each other. I also snuck in snacks, which added an extra level of excitement to the day.
The filmography was very dark. (Hubby said this is because vampires have to hang out at night!) I got a little tired of the dark muddy look to the film. I was like, hey, light a light or something already.
I did enjoy the acting, which was very good. The head bad guy vampire Viktor, played by stage actor Bill Nighy was suitably nasty. The hero of the piece is Lucien the Lycan (werewolf) played by Michael Sheen. There was a great love story in the film between Viktor's daughter Sonja (the rather Kate Beckinsale-esque Rhona Mitra) and Lucien. Sexy vampure werewolf love, baby. You know what time it is!
At any rate, if you like the Underworld series, you will like this movie. If you don't maybe not. Its all a matter of taste.
Ok, now for review in case anyone still has any question:
1. Lichens are symbiotic collections of fungus that grow on trees.
2. Lycans are a scary ancient clan of werewolves.
